UUID Generator - Generate Random UUIDs

Generate UUID v4 or time-ordered UUID v7 identifiers in bulk. Free, secure, and cryptographically random.

Generator Options

🔑 UUID Format:

xxxxxxxx-xxxx-Mxxx-Nxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Version 4 (Random): Randomly generated using cryptographically secure methods. Recommended for most use cases.
  • Version 7 (Time-ordered): Uses the Unix timestamp plus secure randomness, so results sort roughly by creation time without exposing device information.
  • All UUIDs are 128-bit values represented as 36-character strings.
  • Generated using Web Crypto API for cryptographic security.

Practical guide

Choose an identifier for a record

Choose UUID v4 for random identifiers, or UUID v7 when a timestamp-leading identifier suits your storage design. The version changes the identifier structure, not the permissions of a record.

Worked example

Generate a batch of five identifiers. In the usual hyphenated representation, the first character of the third group is 4 for v4 or 7 for v7. Keep the full identifier when copying it into a fixture or database import.

Check the result

Use a uniqueness constraint in the database even when identifiers are generated randomly. The batch control is limited to 100 to keep the interface responsive. Generate a fresh batch rather than copying one identifier into multiple records.

Limitations to know

UUIDs are not passwords or access tokens. UUID v7 exposes an approximate creation time, and this generator does not promise strict ordering between identifiers created in the same millisecond.

How to Use

Follow these simple steps for quick results

  1. 1Choose the number of UUIDs you want to generate (1-100)
  2. 2Select UUID v4 (random) or v7 (time-ordered)
  3. 3Click "Generate" to create random UUIDs
  4. 4Copy individual UUIDs or all at once
  5. 5Use the generated UUIDs in your applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a UUID?

UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) is a 128-bit identifier that is unique across space and time. It is also known as GUID (Globally Unique Identifier). UUIDs are used to identify information in computer systems without central coordination.

What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?

UUID v4 is randomly generated and is ideal when ordering does not matter. UUID v7 combines the current Unix timestamp with secure randomness, making it time-ordered without including a MAC address. Choose v7 when you benefit from roughly chronological IDs.

Are UUIDs truly unique?

While theoretically possible to generate duplicate UUIDs, the probability is so low (approximately 1 in 2^122 for v4) that it is considered negligible for all practical purposes. You can safely assume generated UUIDs are unique.

Where are UUIDs commonly used?

UUIDs are used in databases as primary keys, in distributed systems for unique identification, in APIs for request tracking, in file systems for unique file identifiers, and in software development for session IDs and transaction IDs.

Can I generate multiple UUIDs at once?

Yes! Our tool allows you to generate up to 100 UUIDs in bulk. This is useful when you need multiple unique identifiers for testing, database seeding, or batch operations.

Is the UUID generation cryptographically secure?

Yes, our tool uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.randomUUID()) which provides cryptographically strong random UUIDs suitable for security-sensitive applications.
